21 Things for the 21st Century Administrator
The following video is a brief overview of the technology resources with which I've become familiar over the last couple of months in completing an online course entitled, "21 Things for the 21st Century Administrator."

Online Learning Experiences
The school district in which I work has been slowly, but surely, advancing in the direction of online learning experiences available to students. As many as 4-5 years ago, Moodle came into use by individual teachers who chose to use it for blended instruction in otherwise traditional courses. These were primarily, but not exclusively, Advanced Placement courses at the high school level, in which Moodle became a location to place classroom notes or presentations, links to online resources or activities, announcements and study guides for upcoming assessments. For some of those less comfortable with Moodle, individual teacher web pages on the district's website offered at least an opportunity to place course outlines, announcements, notes, and/or study guides.
The district meets its minimum online learning experience required for graduation by the Michigan Merit Curriculum through a post-secondary preparation course for juniors at the high school. The students have online experiences interwoven throughout the course activities including career searches, job application processes, college and financial aid application, ACT preparation and online practice tests, etc.
Credit recovery for students who fail courses required for graduation has for several years been accomplished through online coursework via classes adapted from e2020 at both the main high school as well as at our alternative high school. This online program is in fact first used at the 8th grade level in after-school labs or during summer as a prerequisite to enter high school if a student has failed multiple core classes.
More recently, the district is finding itself using e2020, Michigan Virtual University, and other online sources for coursework to accomplish seat-time waivers for students who remain enrolled in the district, yet are schooled from home. While each building wrestles with how to adequately staff responsibilities for maintaining weekly communication with, and progress monitoring of, these few off-site students, we are discovering that this is simply the tip of the iceberg to meet the demands of students in the 21st century.

Creative Commons
Creative Commons creativecommons.org is a means of protecting works on the Internet. It allows for a range of copyright protections from restrictive, share only with crediting your ownership of the work to full editing and distribution, commercial or noncommercial, in the public domain. It is an easy way to register protection of your or your company's work, including the works of a school entity or its teachers. Here is my experiment with registering the Edu Praddle blog with Creative Commons, allowing others to share it with a citation of my ownership of the posts in the blog.
